Soprano Emily Murdock is a versatile performer whose performances “resonate well with the audience” (Opera News). Last spring, she made her London debut as a soloist in Arnesen’s Tuvahun: Beatitudes for a Wounded World with Vox Anima London. She has recently performed the roles of Elizabeth “Baby” Doe Tabor in a touring production of The Ballad of Baby Doe with Central City Opera, and Adina (L’elisir d’Amore) with Boulder Opera Company. Emily performs frequently with the Central City Opera Touring Artists and has also sung with Opera Maine, Opera in the Ozarks, the Boulder Fringe Festival, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Opera Colorado, and many regional chorales and orchestras.

Emily is currently the soprano soloist and section leader at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado. She is also one half of the ensemble Liria Duo with pianist Sara Parkinson. Liria Duo released an album of songs by American composer Libby Larsen called Songs of Her Self, and the duo spent three years working closely with the composer on this premiere recording.

Emily has been successful in many multi-round competitions, including the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition, the National Semi-Finals of the NATS Artist Award recital competition, the National Finals of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition, and the Regional Round of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

In addition to performing, Emily works in the performing arts industry as an educator, producer, and administrator. She currently serves as Secretary & Treasurer on the board of director of the new non-profit Creede Musical Arts Collective. For 11 years, she worked in various capacities in the Education & Community Engagement department at Central City Opera, bringing opera performances and education to schools and communities across Colorado. Her two most favorite projects at CCO was leading a new production of the children’s opera Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World by Joe Illick and Mark Campbell, and founding, hosting, and producing the Central City Opera Podcast for seven years.

Emily received her Master of Music in Voice Performance degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and her Bachelor of Music in Voice and Flute Performance degree from the University of Montana. Raised in Whitefish, Montana, Emily now resides with her husband, young daughter, and dog near Denver, Colorado.
